Home is where the art is. (cheesiest blog post title ever, sorry)

Every year, we look forward to the American Institute of Architects homes tour here in Austin. It's such fun to stroll through houses and check out the latest trends in textures and surfaces and just to be in a new space. I can't help but to think about designing a space and how different that would be from actually living in it. There's so many big and little choices to make. And what is that magical, intangible thing that makes all of those elements come together to make a space feel like you want to live there? 

As creative people, my husband and I inevitably notice and discuss the artwork. It's either good, bad or absent. I'm not sure which is more the crime. Probably no art at all. Even the most beautiful home with no art is just a cold empty shell with no soul. It's incredible to spend such money to create a stunning home and not really have any artwork to speak of.

I saw this print today and was able to find it online. It's by Carson Ellis.

When the homes tour is all done for the day and you go back to your own home, I often muse, "If I could pick one of those houses to be in tonight, having a glass of wine, eating chips and salsa with my husband, which one would it be?"  Pool side flat, By Rick and Cindy Black. I'm not even sure I could put my finger on why that's the one... it's back to that intangible coming together of space, interior design, lighting, details and art.
